Teachers need lots of modeling, networking, and support to make this work!

  • Provide multiple approaches to PD
  • Give them laptops early
  • Fund a Tech Integrator (coach) to work with teachers
  • Learn that kids are a resource

What are your Professional Development Successes?

 

Job-alike site visits.

Focused on educational outcome-based skills and NOT the tools. Everyone has the same tool in a unified install - brings all together.

Project-based, individually designed workshops with students as tutors - never software based. 

Two trainers in the room.

Annual student-led conference -

Some haven't gone there, so they are very successful right now. Pilot teachers meet 6 days with other teachers in the province to provide PD on what they are learning with 1:1. Universities have been very supportive. Partnering up teachers - a techie with a non-techie to help pull people along. Small weekly PD included in the schedule - 45 min. a week on a topic.

Establishing a tablet camp for the teachers during monthly gatherings where they can address any concerns with a consultant.
Summer tech camp and survey the teachers on what they would like to see in the meeting.
Peer coaching teams meeting with teachers in developing lessons using technology
